We spoke to one of our student’s mums to find out why her 8 year old daughter enjoyed our mandarin lessons so much more than her last classes.  This is what she had to say:

How did you first hear about Pistachio Mandarin Language Centre – Mandarin Classes Auckland?

My daughter who is 8 years old had attended Chinese lessons with a past provider but she didn’t enjoy it as it was very traditional learning via rote and she was falling behind and becoming quite frustrated.  This is how I was taught Chinese as a child and I remember hating it too.

I’m Malaysian Chinese so I can speak a little Mandarin but it’s better to get an expert to teach my daughter.

When we saw a leaflet on the noticeboard at Ponsonby Library we decided to find out more about Pistachio Mandarin.

Are you in a private class, group class or online class?

My daughter attends her group Mandarin class every Saturday morning in Auckland and she really enjoys these classes for lots of reasons.

The Chinese lessons are very interactive and fun; the young teacher gets very involved and they learn through song, activities, role play, quizzes and games.

She especially loves the games and she’s definitely learning better because she’s enjoying it so much more.

She’s now at the next level where she is learning the characters and their approach is more around making it feel like drawing which makes it far more relaxed and enjoyable too; a bit like doing art lessons.

How would you describe the classes and the teachers?

The teachers are really patient and listen to her if she has any questions or needs reassurance about something in the class. They’re on the students’ level.

The other kids in the class are really nice and watch out for each other.  The reason I know this is because during lockdown the Mandarin lessons have been run online so I can hear them talking to each other.

How would you describe the online lessons?

The kids are used to online learning now because they’ve had to do it for school and they have no choice so they just get on with it.

It’s great because they can connect via Zoom and it doesn’t interrupt their learning.

Would you recommend Pistachio Mandarin to other people?

I would definitely recommend Pistachio Mandarin and I have actually already recommended it to an adult friend of mine who is interested in learning Mandarin.
