Students were taught Christmas greetings with pictures and pinyin words on the slides. This will enable them to wish their family and friends the greetings in Mandarin.
shèng dàn jié kuài lè – Happy Christmas
shèng dàn lǎo rén – Santa Clause
shèng dàn shù – Christmas tree
sòng lǐ wù – to give a present
Zhù nǐ shèng dàn jié kuài lè – wishing you a Happy Christmas
A Christmas video spoken in Mandarin was shown to the students. They were so engrossed in the story as our teacher explained to them.
Each student was given an A5 paper with pictures of a Santa Clause and presents with pinyin words. They had to colour the pictures, glue a stick to the side of the paper and they held it like a flag. From the paper flags, they learnt how to say the pinyin words of:
shèng dàn jié kuài lè, Wǒ xǐhuān lǐwù (Happy Charistmas, I like presents)
Parents were invited to join us to celebrate the happy occasion of Christmas and Kohia Terrace School Principal was our special guest. The Principal reinforced the learning of the Chinese language, its culture and the School supports the courses that Pistachio Mandarin is doing.
Yatchun thanked all the key stakeholders who were, the customers being the students and their parents, the teaching staff and Kohia Terrace School for working together around the challenges of the pandemic and to make 2020 a good year.
Finally, Santa Clause showed up by ringing the bell and with a bag of goodies. The children were so excited when they saw Santa. Santa took a seat and lǐ wù (presents) were given away to the children.
We concluded the year with morning tea. There was a big variety of food contributed by our parents and adult students. You can see in the video that the children were ripping into the food packaging and really enjoying the party.
I hope you enjoy watching the video we have put together for the class.
