As you all know things have been a little bit different for all of us lately, and similarly, so was our Christmas celebration on the last day of our classes.

While we didn’t celebrate in the classroom, as part of our Pistachio Mandarin tradition, we still created an environment with lots of fun and inclusiveness with all our families.

What normally happened pre-Covid was on the last day of class we had fun activities around Christmas themes like singing songs, telling stories and arts and crafts, which our students always enjoyed. We also invited Santa to visit our classes. The children’s faces lit up when the jolly red fellow came into the room! It really made our day when you saw their smiles.

This year however, we are doing it differently. In the final online class of the year last week, we taught all our students how to say Christmas greetings in Mandarin. These included;

Wish you a Merry Christmas – zhù nǐ shèng dàn kuài lè

Santa Claus – Shèngdàn lǎorén

Presents – Lǐwù

Christmas Tree – Shèngdànshù

After the online class, Yatchun met with the students on a one on one basis on the grounds outside Kohia Terrace School, as we were unable to hold a group gathering. She extended her gratitude and presented them with Christmas gifts and achievement certificates to recognise the effort they have put into their learning this year.

In preparation for the gift giveaway, Yatchun went to the supermarket to buy the Christmas goodies. She has never overloaded her trolley to the brim in the past but for this event, she did. The goodies included boxes of chocolates, packets of potato chips, Asian gourmet spice paste, Indian poppadoms, instant noodles, and shortbread biscuits. Have a look at the photo of her shopping trolley.

It is important that we emphasized to our students and their families how well the learners had adapted to online learning during this time and to express our appreciation to them for standing by the business during this challenging time.

Likewise, for our staff, it’s been a big challenge to navigate this new way of learning online and we want to take this opportunity to thank them. We couldn’t have done any of this without them. Our team has worked especially hard to ensure all the student’s learning needs were met during this period of online learning. We will be having a staff picnic to celebrate this year’s success and the team effort put into making everything works – make sure to watch out for this next blog.

While this year had its challenges, it has also had many positives and reasons to celebrate. Overall, with the collective effort from our students, families, and our team at Pistachio Mandarin, we can confidently say 2021 has been a great year, and we cannot wait for the year 2022 to come!

We’d love you to join us in 2022. We offer both group classroom lessons and online learning. To find out more contact us today
